I never thought I'd be writing one of these posts, but here I am and I figured maybe it'll give someone else some hope who's in the thick of it right now. I got hurt at work back in 2021, a really bad fall at a construction site in Ulster County that ended up requiring two surgeries on my knee and a lot of physical therapy. The insurance company fought me on everything, denied my second surgery, tried to cut off my benefits twice, and sent me to IME doctors who said I was fine when I clearly wasn't. I tried handling it myself for the first year and got absolutely nowhere. I finally hired an Ulster County workers comp law firm and they took over everything. It still took another year and a half to get to settlement, but having someone in my corner made all the difference. I didn't have to talk to the adjuster anymore, I didn't have to stress about every letter that came in the mail, I just focused on my recovery and let them handle the fight. Last week I got my settlement check and while it's not going to make me rich, it's enough to pay off the medical bills I had been stressing about and give me a little cushion while I figure out what's next for work since I can't go back to construction. To anyone out there who feels like this is never going to end, I promise you it does. It's exhausting and it's unfair and there were so many days I wanted to give up, but just keep pushing and get yourself someone who knows what they're doing. You don't have to do this alone.
